A message from Executive
Director Karen Johnson
As a result of the onslaught of
Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, the entire community of Grand Bahama
has suffered significant loss; each person and entity, to varying
degrees.

If you have traveled along
Settler's Way since the storms, you undoubtedly would have noticed
that the YMCA has not been excluded from the devastation.
The new Executive is embarking on a
massive campaign, "A NEW YMCA - A STRONGER COMMUNITY" As you can
imagine we have an extraordinary task before us. Our initial
fundraiser will be a Thanksgiving Family Fun Day to be held on the
YMCA field on November 27, 2004. Part of the proceeds will go
towards the demolition for the remainder of the structure that is
still standing. A NEW YMCA is on the way!

We are down, but not out and our
soccer and swimming programs are going strong.
We are pleased to now have our own
website up and running and hope you will sign up for our newsletter
so you can stay abreast of our progress. We have a lot of ideas for
the future and are open to suggestions too. If you are able to
assist the YMCA with a donation please know that your money will go
a long way toward building a new full service community centre that
the entire island of Grand Bahama can utilize and enjoy.
